Who they are?

NAMI Pinellas, a chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, works to improve the lives of those affected by mental illness. Founded by families in 1979, they provide education, support, and advocacy for individuals and families. Their goal is to raise awareness, increase access to resources, and build a supportive community where everyone can thrive.

Groups

NAMI support groups are free, quality, peer-led, community based and available in person and/or zoom. Many people struggle with mental health challenges, but help is available. NAMI offers free support groups led by people with similar experiences. These groups provide a safe and welcoming space to connect, share stories, and get support from your community.

SSI Savings Penalty Elimination Act

This bill increases resource limits used to determine eligibility for the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program. SSI is a federal assistance program that provides monthly cash payments to aged, blind, or disabled individuals with limited income and resources. Specifically, the bill increases the resource limits from $2,000 to $10,000 for individuals and from $3,000 to $20,000 for married couples. The bill annually adjusts the limits for inflation.

Summary of Consumer Advisory Council (CAC) meeting held on June 6, 2024. The attendees discussed ways to improve client participation in recovery programs and services provided by Boley Centers. Suggestions included creating a clubhouse for client socialization and using social media or text messaging apps to communicate with clients. The CAC also decided to organize speaking engagements at group homes to inform clients about the CAC’s purpose. The meeting adjourned at 11:05 AM.
